The division of theoretical physics at Bielefeld University invites applications for a doctoral position in the area at the intersection between nuclear many-body theory, lattice field theory and quantum information science. The position will start in the beginning of 2025 and will be funded for a period of one year with planned extension by another two years. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Caroline Robin on developping methods and quantum algorithms for describing structure and dynamics of strongly-interacting quantum many body systems and lattice fields theories.
The successful candidate will
- perform research on the above-mentioned topics (80 %)
- publish their results in scientific journals and present at workshop/conferences (15 %)
- participate in the organization of the academic life in the physics department (5 %)
The employment is conducive to academic qualification.

- completed relevant university studies (master's degree or equivalent) in Physics
- knowledge in many-body physics, quantum field theory, lattice gauge theories
- knowledge / experience in the area of quantum information and in the development of quantum simulations for many-body systems
- programming experience (e. g. Python or other language)
- good knowledge of English (written and spoken)
- good communication skills (written and spoken)
- collaborative and team work abilities
- independent, self-directed and organized style of work
- experience in the development of quantum algorithms with Qiskit or another quantum programming software
